Gary Thomas hails from Athens, Alabama just
north of the great Tennessee River. His interest in waterfowling began more than forty years ago
while tagging along on hunting trips with his father and brothers. His interest in woodworking
came naturally from his father who was a master at restoring antique furniture. He began making
wooden calls mostly of cocobolo and osage orange approximately twenty years ago as a hobby.
These calls are a single reed Arkansas style and come with a pinned brass band.
Over the years, Gary has perfected his calls and now produces
a Competition Grade Open Water Call in wood or acrylic. These
calls are very loud and raspy but can be blown very softly to produce the lowest quacks, or hard to
produce the loud, clear, ringing tones of the highball.
For the timber hunter, Gary produces a shorter, softer sounding call that has plenty of rasp like "Old Susie" herself. Each call can be tailored to the demands of individual customers and is guaranteed in workmanship for the life of the original owner.
